The Best Cardio Tips For Newbies

So, you just started doing cardio or you're planning to, and you want to make sure to get it right. I'm sure that you have a lot of questions and things you are wondering about. This is what I hope to help you with in this article.

Let's cover some of the basic tips that you should know about how to do cardio correctly.

How to Choose a Workout

Picking the right cardio workout for you is the first major decision that you need to make. There is a range of opinion as to which is the best for of cardio for you to do. A good rule of thumb is that the more intense a workout is the better it is for fat loss purposes. So, running will prove more helpful than walking.

However, your choice of workout take into account two factors:

1. What you can physically do - If you suffer from certain injuries that make it difficult for you to engage in certain activities than you shouldn't force yourself. A shoulder injury may make rowing hard and knee issues may make walking better than running. You need to do a workout which is physically right for you.

2. Choose something you like - I wouldn't choose running over swimming just because the former is better for weight loss if swimming is your passion. You need to pick a cardio workout that you enjoy. The reason for this is simple: cardio is not a one time thing and you won't get results in a week or even two. You need to do it on a regular basis for a long time for it to be useful. So, you have to do something you love.

Equipment

You should have the necessary gear to do your workouts correctly. Shoes are the most important item as they can actually help reduce tension on your joints and tendons. You don't need a lot of equipment to start with. Other than shoes, I can think of little which is absolutely necessary.

Intensity Over Length

One misconception about cardio is that you need to do it for a certain length of time in order for it to be useful. This is not accurate. I would rather do a short but intense workout than a long and easy one. You need to push your body during your workouts to see fast results. How long you stay on a treadmill or a bike is not as important as the kind of workout you do.

So, pick a workout you like, have good shoes and gear to do it with and push yourself during your workouts. These are the cardio tips you need to know.

How To Lose Belly Fat - Hint, No Cardio, Situps, or Diet - Lose 4 Inches of Belly Fat in 26 Days

Sick and tired of people giving out the same old boring and tired advice on how to lose belly fat? You know... eat more fruits and vegetables, drink more water, do situps, exercise more, and blah blah blah. What a joke!

You want something new and exciting... and that's what I have for you. Here's how to lose belly fat (specifically - lose 4 inches of belly fat in 26 days) without any diet, situps, or the typical bogus cardio stuff like running on a treadmill.

Here are 3 out-of-the-ordinary belly fat exercises that will allow you to lose belly fat fast.

Lose Belly Fat Exercise #1: The Belly Rub

This is my favorite belly fat exercise and it takes all of 40 seconds to do. First, you need to rub your hands together for 10-15 seconds to create kinetic heat energy (I'll explain briefly). Next, you take 1 hand and start rubbing around your belly button in small circles.

Rubbing your belly in circles should last about 25-30 seconds. That's it. Do 3-5 minutes of this each day.

Ok, now the idea behind that. Belly fat (all fat) doesn't like heat. Any type of environment where your core body temperature gets elevated increases your body's fat burning abilities. So by rubbing your hands and creating kinetic heat energy... and then rubbing one of those hands on your belly... you're creating a localized area of higher internal temperatures.

And... it's right on your belly fat. The heat from your hands pass through your skin and right into the belly fat deposits. This heat will help "persuade" and loosen up some of the fat to dissolve or break off and be carried away in the blood.

Soon after that, that fat will be excreted by you in either your urine, feces, or sweat.

Oh yeah, 1 quick tip before I go on to the next belly fat exercise. To generate more heat quicker, lick one of your hands before you rub them together. Seriously... it works!

Lose Belly Fat Exercise #2: Vacuum Pose

This exercise is similar to sucking in your belly, but there is a key difference. While standing up, you need to visualize your belly button getting sucked into your lower back when you do this. This will help you to suck in your belly at the correct point... which is your belly button.

Lead with your belly button when you suck in your belly.

This exercise doesn't provide much for weight loss, but it's the quickest way to lose inches from your waist while toning up your belly. I'll repeat that. This exercise is the quickest way you can lose inches from your waist!

Anyway, when you do the vacuum pose, suck in your belly for a minimum of 15 seconds each time. Eventually, try to build up to holding in your sucked-in belly for 1 minute at a time. Do this exercise for 5 minutes everyday.

Lose Belly Fat Exercise #3: Jumping on a Mini-trampoline

Ok, first off, you can get a mini-trampoline for about $25. Wal-Mart has them. Now, this is probably my favorite piece of equipment. It allows me to stay home to workout. You're going to jump on the mini-trampoline, but it won't be like that typical gym cardio.

I want you to jump on it for 2 minutes at a time. Nothing more. Now, don't worry... you don't need to jump high for this to be effective. In fact, you barely lift your heels off the thing. A lot of times, my toes don't even leave the surface of it... just my heels lift off and sway left to right in a nice rhythm.

What I found that works best for me is to do these 2 minute intervals during tv commercials. The typical tv show has about 22 minutes of commercials each hour. So there's your 22 minutes of working out... without you having to make a special trip anywhere.

The 22 minutes breeze by... all the while as you watch tv. What can be better than that?

Now, you don't need to limit yourself to just doing these during tv commercials. Do them whenever. What I do is I jump on it for 2 minutes whenever I get a chance... morning, afternoon, or night. The 2 minutes here and there add up. But I also have a routine of doing them while I watch my favorite tv shows at night... 4 days a week, 22 minutes each night.

So how did I do?

Did I not deliver on my promise to give you some cool and fun belly fat exercises! And yes... I had 1 client who lost 4 inches off her waist in 26 days doing just these 3 exercises... without making any changes to her diet or exercise routine. I've also had numerous other clients lose 2-3 inches in a month doing these.

If you don't know how to lose belly fat after reading this article, I don't know what to say. This is not brain surgery. You just need to get up off your butt and do these things. Now go lose some belly fat before you make me mad! Smile. Kidding.

The Best Cardio for Fat Loss

The Best Cardio Intervals for Fat Loss: Part 1

Is there really a best interval training system for fat loss?

Do intervals really work as well as regular cardio for fat loss?

I'm going to cover these, and many more questions in Part 1 of your lessons on interval training.

But this is not just interval training 101. Today, you're going to
leave this email with a graduate degree in interval training for
fat loss.

I'll answer both questions upfront before the lesson begins, and
I'll give more details on each as we go along:

1) Conservatively, intervals are at least as effective as regular
aerobic training for fat loss. Personally, I believe intervals are
far superior. And there is no denying that intervals allow you to
get your workouts done a lot faster than slow, boring cardio
workouts.

2) I have to admit, there is no best interval training program for
fat loss. But that is a good thing, because there are so many waysv that you can change your interval training to keep your fat loss results coming week in and week out.

By changing your training program every three to four weeks, you are using one of the key principles of Turbulence Training - variety. It is essential to change your workouts this frequently, otherwise you might suffer from a dreaded fat loss plateau.

And if that is the case for you now, I'll show you dozens of
alternative interval training workouts you can use to kick-start
your metabolism and fat loss.

Now what many people don't know, or perhaps just fail to recognize, is that interval training is not just for advanced fitness superstars. No way. In fact, intervals are an effective and perhaps even the most effective method for beginners to get fit and lose fat.

First you have to understand that interval training is based on
relative performance. While my intervals would be much too hard for a beginner, my intervals would be a joke for Lance Armstrong.

So even for those men and women that are just dipping their toe
into the fitness waters for the first time in months, years, or
dare I say, decades, they too can do interval training.

If you are a beginner and you can walk at 3.3mph for 20 minutes, then your intervals will start at a walk at 3.6mph for 30 seconds to a minute. That is interval training.

It doesn't have to be high-intensity, sprint-to-the-death activity.

Instead, just increase the intensity slightly more than you can
normally handle, and do so for a short time, and intersperse that
with periods of easier exercise for twice the duration.

So if you did 1 minute at 3.6mph, drop down to 3.0mph for 2
minutes. Do that up to 6 times, and you've had yourself an interval session.

Now for those of you that have been doing only slow, traditional
cardio, switching over to interval training 2-3 times per week is
going to be the fat loss equivalent of throwing a lit, gasoline
soaked rag on a pile of dry kindling.

Here's why...research has given us a lot of evidence that intervals are superior to traditional cardio. First, a study from Laval University in 1994 compared interval training to aerobic training - straight up - over a 12 week training period. Subjects that used interval training had better results. They lost more fat. You can't argue with that.

And second, interval training causes metabolic turbulence - also
known as boost in your metabolism. Due to the high-intensity nature of intervals, there is more "turbulence" applied to the muscle. That means more muscle breakdown and more adaptations in the muscle.

Now I know that sounds very technical, but all you need to
understand is that when all this extra activity goes on at the
muscle level, it requires a lot more energy to return your muscle back to normal (i.e. to get out of turbulence and back to a normal resting state).

And when your body uses more energy, it means, in laymen's terms, that you are burning more calories.

So it's important for men and women not too get hung up on the
calorie counters in the gym. First, because the calorie count of
the workout is not the only factor in determining fat loss
(intervals burn far more calories after the workout - more on that later).

And second, a report on CBS showed that the calorie counters on some machines are often significantly inaccurate.

Doesn't that boil your blood when you think back to all those times you did slow, boring cardio and patiently watched the calorie counter creep up to your goal of 250, 300, or even 400 calories? And who knows if that was even accurate?

With intervals, you can forget about the calories on the machine.
Just work hard, do the intervals, then leave the gym and let your muscles continue burning calories on its own while it recovers from exercise.

OK, time is up, so I'm going to leave off here for Part 1.

I apologize, you don't have your Master's of Science Degree in
Interval Training yet, but you will after Part 2.

So your homework between now and next week's class is to start incorporating interval training into your fat loss program. For beginners, see the outline above. Make sure to include a 5-minute specific warm-up and cool-down.

And if you truly did just peel yourself off the couch last week and you have not exercised in years, I insist that you see a doctor before you take up any exercise program. Believe me, you'll thank yourself for it.

For more advanced fitness levels, let's start with 60 second
intervals.

Do a 5-minute specific warm-up, then exercise for 60 seconds at a slightly harder than normal cardio pace.

Follow that with 90 seconds of exercise at a very easy pace. (Don't exercise too hard in the recovery period - that is one of the biggest mistakes people make with interval training!). Repeat this sequence for 3 more intervals (let's just do 4 intervals for your first session).

Through trial and error, find an intensity that allows you to work to near fatigue - but not complete fatigue, there should still be some "gas" left in the tank - by the end of the 60 second interval.

In the next newsletter, I'll discuss at least 6 different interval
durations and when you should use them, as well as the best
interval training methods - and don't miss when I expose the most ineffective machine in the gym.

Hint - It is also the most common machine these days, yet I've yet to see a single person change their body by using this machine for their cardio and intervals.
