Navy SEAL Workouts Burn Belly Fat, But Are They For You?

Navy SEAL workouts are superior for burning belly fat and building functional strength. However, the knock against them is that they do not build muscular size. To me, this is NOT a legitimate gripe.

Last week, some friends and I finished our workout at they gym and were discussing what we could do to improve our strength. One of the guys suggested chipping in a couple of bucks each, and buying a Navy SEAL workout dvd to get some ideas for putting together a routine. This seemed like a great idea to me, but our other buddy said, "Those SEAL workouts aren't good for anything but getting you in shape."

Say what? Isn't that what we wanted to do? What he was getting at was that, though, is that we would get stronger, we would burn belly fat, we would get more defined...but we would not get BIG.

Right there is the crux of polarized opinion and the two resolving arguments for using (or not using) Navy SEAL workouts in your personal fitness program.

Exactly what are the Navy SEALs...and what do they do?

The United Sates Navy SEALs are an elite commando fighting unit that engages in covert combat operations. SEAL is an acronym for Sea, Air, Land...the three environments where these small teams gather intelligence, destroy targets, and make rescues, all without being detected. Their missions include small unit patrolling, high speed boat operations, combat swimmer operations, urban warfare, SDV and dry deck operations (using small mini-subs to launch from a main submarine), and even winter warfare operations. They work in small units from two men, up to a platoon of 16, in harsh elements of heat and cold.

How are Navy SEAL workouts focused in their training programs?

These special forces are trained in extreme environments of heat and cold. Their conditioning takes place in jungles, deserts, and urban environments. It is all centered on their mission objectives of Unconventional Warfare, Counter Terrorism, Special Reconnaissance, Foreign Internal Defense, and Direct Action. In a nutshell, Navy SEAL fitness is geared to maximizing mission-related performance. They must be able to transport a substantial amount of equipment, plus two weapons and ammunition, over varied, rugged, and unforgiving terrain. (Loads of 70 lbs - 80 lbs per man are about standard.) Scramble over fences, walls and blown out buildings. Swim long distances with and without fins. Handle heavy equipment underwater and on land, and climb up and down rope cargo nets or caving ladders.

What are the main components of their workouts?

Running, swimming, and body weight exercises are the staple of conditioning for this elite combat unit. Volume sets (such as 10x30 push ups, 10x20 dips, or 10x10 pull ups) are the backbone of maintaining and increasing functional strength. Long distance swimming and running are combined with sprint interval training in both. Exercise is continuous with relatively short breaks of recovery.

How do Navy SEAL workouts fit for you?

The conditioning routines followed by Navy SEALs expend a huge amount of calories. They want to be as lean and strong as possible to complete the arduous tasks of their missions. If your focus in your personal training program is on benching 300 lbs, dead lifting 400 lbs, or gaining 15 pounds in weight over a 6-month period, this workout program would only frustrate you. However, if you are intent on burning belly fat, increasing your muscular endurance, and elevating your functional strength, committing to Navy SEAL workouts will be worthwhile.

What Top Foods Can Help You Burn Belly Fat?

Usually, the body part most people have difficulty with when it comes to weight loss is the stomach, and especially the lower section and love handles. However, there's a trick to everything, and although it will take time and patience, there is definitely a way to get rid of that stubborn belly fat once and for all. How to Lose Weight the right way is also related to losing belly fat; if you haven't seen results, it is probably because you haven't been doing the right things.

Forget everything you've heard about crunches and sit-ups. The truth is that you should not be targeting your abdominal area during exercises more than twice a week and usually crunches and sit-ups are not very effective. When it comes to fitness training, the secret to losing belly fat is to do full body workouts and not target the abdominals often. Focusing on exercises for the stomach when you already have fat on it will cause you to form a bigger and thicker waist and stomach area.

Why? This is because you are building muscle on top of fat. The first thing you have to do is to burn the fat, and then begin to build muscle. Here are some good exercises that will help you burn belly fat without targeting your stomach:

1. Staircase workouts

2. Wind sprints and hill sprints

3. Bodyweight workouts

4. Swimming

5. Mountain biking

6. Jumping exercises

7. Indoor or outdoor rock climbing

8. Bag boxing

Another important thing to keep in mind is that proper nutrition is probably the most important aspect of losing stomach fat. So, if you are constantly at the gym and wondering why you haven't been able to get rid of your stomach fat, then you probably have not been eating the right things. Fat loss diets are a great way to start losing belly fat, and there are specific foods that are target fat loss and allow you to lose weight at a faster rate.

One of the most effective foods for stomach weight loss is whole grains. Stay away from refined grains, because a diet rich in whole grains will change the glucose and insulin response in your body, which will speed up the melting of fat process in your abdominal area.

Also, studies have shown that a diet with a higher ratio of monounsaturated fats can prevent the buildup of belly fat. Some foods to avoid are Trans fats such as margarines, crackers, and cookies, because they are made with partially hydrogenated oils which means that their fat content will be deposited mostly in the abdominal area.

Soluble fiber such as apples, oats and cherries lower the insulin levels, which as mentioned above, can reduce the amount of belly fat storage. Mono Unsaturated Fatty Acids (MUFAs) can burn more belly fat and they can be found in the following foods:

1. Oils such as olive oil and canola oil

2. Nuts and seeds, such as cashews, peanuts and walnuts

3. Avocadoes

4. Dark Chocolate

5. Grape seed oil

6. Soybean oil

Losing belly fat can be a challenge, but it's not impossible. Make sure that you are following a proper and balanced nutrition plan and are exercising regularly. In addition, never skip breakfast, drink LOTS of water, and carefully monitor everything you eat! Don't get discouraged, be patient and give yourself time. When learning about How to Lose Weight, do it the right way. Your health is important, so give it the attention it deserves!

6 Amazing Foods That Burn Belly Fat - Who Knew Peanut Butter Was a Fat Buster?

So you want to lose that belly fat and you want to know what the magic food is that will do it fast right. Well there is no single food or group of foods that is going to make you lose fat. There is a difference between just losing weight and losing fat, particularly belly fat. You can lose through a diet simply by reducing calories. However, after you've lost the weight you are still going to have fat flabby skin hanging off you.

Fat is burned by muscle. The more muscles you exercise the more fat that is burned. Its really that simple. So does that mean you have to become a fitness fanatic and spend hours exercising? No. But you will have to do some exercise to get the muscles burning the fat.

If you're going to exercise, wouldn't it be great if you got the best benefit in terms of burning the flab? Well you can help out those workouts by eating foods that will burn more calories and boost your metabolism.

Here's a basic rule about the body processing food. It takes more effort (calories) to process proteins than it does to process carbohydrates and fats. That's not saying you should be on a strictly protein diet because that's not healthy. But if you can get the right combination of protein, fiber and nutrients you can really help your metabolism do its thing.

So what are these foods. Well there are a ton out there but here are seven that I think will shock you.

Eggs, Egg Yolks

Who knew the egg commercials were right? Eggs, specifically egg yolks are ounce for ounce the best source of nutrients available. They pack a ton of vitamin B-12 which the body needs to metabolize fats. In a study done at the University of Louisiana, researchers found that people who ate eggs every morning as opposed to people who ate bagels, lost more weight. Eggs come with cholesterol so you want to check with your doctor before you try this.

Iced Green Tea

The real brewed stuff, not the processed bottled drinks, are super high in antioxidants and antioxidants speed up metabolism (also great for repairing damage done by high blood pressure). Tea drinkers who consume four cups a day have been proven to burn 266 more calories than those who don't drink tea.

Fresh Green Leafy Vegetables

Great source of fiber and antioxidants with very few calories. Plants like spinach, broccoli, arugula, and romaine will fill you up and give you the nutrition you need. What's really surprising though, is iceberg lettuce, the most commonly used lettuce in commercial salads, has almost no fiber at all. Don't confuse iceberg with the other great leafy plants.

Natural Peanut Butter

Who knew? Natural peanut butter, not to be confused with the Jiffs and Skippys of the world is packed with niacin which keeps the digestive track in order and prevents stomach bloat. Two tablespoons of this little treat every day will actually help you lose fat.

Parmigiano Cheese

Now this little fact comes from the University of Wisconsin so it might be a bit suspect. However, a study done there shows that Parmigiano cheese is low in calories and has the highest protein value of any other food in the dairy group. In addition it is rich in calcium which ignites fat burning hormones.

Nuts

Unsalted nuts like Almonds and cashews provide a good fatty acid as well as a lot of fiber that makes us feel full longer. Here's a little tip. Take a handful of nuts 30 minutes before each meal. You'll find you are not nearly as hungry and will eat less.

So there you have it. Six foods that will help you lose belly fat and get you to that new slim look you know you have inside you.

Oh, there is another way to burn belly fat quickly and its called exercise but that's another article.

Do you know all of the fat burning foods that work? Do you know what combination of exercises work best with a fat burning diet. I have to admit that I didn't at first and I wasted a lot of time and energy. 1 Way to Burn Belly Fat in 3 Days (Without Making Yourself Sick)

Who else is having trouble with belly fat? If you are anything like I used to be... one of the biggest enemies of self esteem, especially as the weather warms up, is belly fat. Let's be honest: It's unappealing. It's unflattering. It feels bad... LOOKS bad and none of us enjoys lugging it around on the beach, in the boardroom... and CERTAINLY not in the bedroom :-)

The good news? Belly fat is MUCH easier to lose than many people will have you believe. While SPOT fat loss is often considered one of the most controversial elements of the diet movement, there ARE ways that I've been personally able to lose fat SPECIFICALLY around my belly, and I'm going to share them with you below.

This is often called "fasting" by the uninitiated, but it's really "feasting" if you've ever done it... because it's easy and it's abundant. The simple truth is that a lot of the BULGE of belly fat is caused by inflammation. And inflammation is often the result of a whole host of things that aren't really related to typical dietary discipline. For example...many naturopaths, alternative wellness doctors and gurus believe that a significant portion of your "bulge" is actually caused by accumulated waste in the colon...and the digestive tract. This leads to poor elimination, pockets of unsightly deposits, and ultimately, a body you CAN'T be proud of...no matter how much you try. A juice fast is an easy way to gently eliminate a lot of this "gunk"....while simultaneously, lessening the inflammation in your body to boot! (plus it feels amazing as anyone who has ever tried a juice feast... your body, mind AND spirit are rejuvenated in a way that's difficult to explain to those who haven't tried it)

My favorite way to get moving on a juice fast?

Go to the store, and simply buy healthy, natural and wholesome juices that are NOT from concentrate. Fresh squeezed is best... and while pasteurization is supposed to KILL some of the natural enzymes in the fruits and vegetables, I find that's a pretty over-rated concern for a 3 day juice fast. There are a few brands that are really, really good...and while I don't want to make any specific recommendations here, carrot juice is pretty easy to get at any supermarket, and tastes pretty good, too! (and is often 100% carrots, and not filler, like many of the higher calorie fruit juices are)

It's truly amazing how much of a difference you'll feel after only a few short days of this... and as long as you are up for it (check with your doctor) it's a wonderful and safe way to lose belly fat in a hurry!

But understand this as well... it's NOT a long term solution. It's a quick start, and a good one at that. But for a BIG picture view of life long OPTIMAL health and wellness, you need a bigger goal, and a bigger permanent plan to help you get there!

(and if you TRULY want to be in the sort of shape I've gotten in over the last 6 months... you'll WANT to copy my program for sure!)

How to Burn Belly Fat and Great Ab Workouts

Belly fat - we all know it, and we all hate it. Unfortunately, in addition to being unsightly and making skinny jeans extremely difficult to wriggle into, belly fat is also dangerous.

Here, we'll review what causes the body to accumulate abdominal jiggle, as well as how to burn belly fat.

What Causes Belly Fat?

Unfortunately, the epidemic of tummy fat is a very dangerous one. This type of fat has been shown to be an indicator for heart disease, stroke, diabetes and many other debilitating, chronic and lethal conditions.

The composition of abdominal fat is the same as other fat. The differences lie in how and why the body creates it. Those differences are also the reasons why abdominal fat is such a health hazard. Learning how to burn tummy fat has a lot to do with realizing why it's there in the first place.

Insulin Resistance

Consuming high amounts of sugars and refined carbs are very common causes for insulin resistance. Due to insulin's extremely complex role in the body, one of the side effects of insulin resistance is the accumulation of fat. This can occur even if the rest of the body remains at a healthy weight.

A great first step is replacing some of your sugary or carb-laden foods with protein-rich options. Try to take in at least 30 grams of protein per day. You won't feel hungry, and your metabolism will speed up. Learning how to burn belly fat has a great deal to do with overall health, and that includes a high-functioning metabolic rate.

General Obesity

If total-body obesity is the case for you, then the tried-and-true methods of eating better and exercising more are your first - and most vital - steps when it comes to how to burn belly fat.

Excess Stress

Believe it or not, your stress levels have a direct effect on belly fat! When we are chronically stressed, our bodies and minds to into a type of 'survival mode' passed down from our earliest ancestors. Part of that survival mode includes packing on fat reserves, and the body's favorite place to do that is the abdomen. The more we stress, the more they accumulate, until finally we're stressing over our stress-related abdominal fat! It's a vicious cycle, but thankfully one that can be stopped with the right tools.

Relaxation is different for everybody, but if you're chronically stressed, finding what works for you is one of the best investments you can make in your physical and mental health. Yoga, meditation, prayer, spending time outdoors and sports are some simple and easy options to try.

Blast it Off!

How to lose belly fat fast is one of the most common fitness questions. While the overnight six-pack is still just a fantasy, there are concrete steps you can take today. These steps, if followed faithfully, will whittle down that waistline.

Your first step involves diet. Find a reasonable and enjoyable eating plan, based on your health, medical needs and preferences. Remember to avoid sugars and processed carbs while focusing on proteins, fruits, vegetable and whole grains.

Your next step is finding a cardio. There is no such thing as spot-toning - you must burn fat all over your body in order to tackle that stubborn abdominal fat. Check with your local gym to see their options for beginner cardio classes and workout buddies for accountability.

Creating a Commitment

Your abdominal fat didn't appear in a day, and it won't disappear that quickly either. However, if you commit to a healthy eating and exercise plan, you'll be surprised just how quickly those stubborn fat deposits will burn off.

Learning how to burn belly fat isn't difficult - sticking with the solutions can be. Enlist all the help you need and remember to check with your doctor regarding any changes to your diet or exercise regimens.

Fruits That Burn Belly Fat

Fruits are often talked about on both ends of the weight loss spectrum. Are there really fruits that burn belly fat? Some people argue that eating a lot of fruit can be bad for fat loss due to the high amounts of sugar contained in fruit, while others boast that while fruit may be high in sugar and overall calories, the nutrients contained in fruits overpower the negative effects of the sugar. In my opinion, both sides have valid points.

Just Eat A lot of Healthy Foods, Right?

Eating "healthy" foods like fruit is a great start to any good diet. Diets full of processed and artificial ingredients are not healthy, and should be consumed in small portions, if at all. The healthier foods have higher levels of good-for-you things like antioxidants, flavonoids and vitamins. It goes back to the comparison between donuts and chicken. Eating 100 calories worth of blueberries is a lot better than eating 100 calories worth of candy.

What's The Problem with Fruit?

The problem with fruit is that it IS high in calories, more specifically sugar. If you sit around eating fruit all day, you'll probably end up gaining weight, because, while all sugars aren't exactly the same, consuming a lot of fast absorbing carbs, like sugar, often leads to fat storage.

In other words, eating too much "healthy" food is still a problem, because over-consuming calories will lead to weight gain. This can be offset with a proper exercise program, but always remember, while all calories are not created equal, too many healthy calories is still too many calories.

So, Are There Actually Fruits That Burn Belly Fat?

Kind of. Many fruits have higher levels of flavonoids, and in a 14 year study, participants who consumed more flavonoids saw less of an increase in belly fat. It's important to note that most foods higher in flavonoids are also healthier foods, like fruits, veggies and tea.

Here are some fruits that are higher in antioxidants, low-moderate in sugar, and high in fiber. Stick to these in moderation and you might just start to lose belly fat.

1. Bananas

2. Pomegranate

3. Blueberries, Raspberries, and Blackberries

4. Apples

5. Pears

6. Grapefruit

Eating clean is always a great place to start when it comes to weight loss, but you always have to remember that too many healthy calories is still too many calories. Monitor your portions and stick to non-starchy carbs like these fruits and veggies and you'll start to see progress.

Hindu Pushup Variation - This exercise is a body weight exercise. It increases your endurance and strength. At the same time, it burns belly fat faster than any other exercise.

Keep your legs wide apart and your hands planted on the ground. Assume the position of the normal bomb-diver pushup. Tilt your head forward and incline your body.

Maintain that position. Don't rise from that position. Hold that position for around ten to fifteen minutes. You will soon find out that it gets really difficult. If you can master this one exercise and do it for twenty minutes every day, you'll get abs within two weeks.

Breathing Exercise - You don't need to work your body for this exercise. It makes use of your respiratory system. This exercise relaxes your mind and burns fat too. It can be difficult at first. After two days of doing it, you'll get the hang of it. It can stress you at the beginning.

Inhale as much as you can. You will reach a point where you can't take any more breath. You will feel a stinging sensation in your throat and tightening of your stomach muscles. Take in a little more for another two seconds and exhale all the air. Exhale it until your belly gets hard and your body craves oxygen.

Inhale and exhale the same way for another five to six times. Do this exercise once in the morning and once in the evening. Don't do it inside your house. Do it in some place where you can get a lot of fresh air. This exercise will also increase your life span.
